Easy Low Carb Pizza Sauce

I've developed a few low carb pizza recipes throughout the years, but I hadn't yet created an easy and delicious tomato based low carb pizza sauce to go along with it.

For my birthday, I got an Aerogarden...and I've been growing a few different types of fresh basil.

This low carb recipe was inspired because I was looking for a way to use up the fresh basil I had just harvested.

When on a ketogenic diet and keeping carbohydrates low, remember that tomatoes are inherently high in natural sugars. So, any tomato based pizza sauce should be used in moderation. You may want to consider a creamy alfredo sauce instead if you're keeping total carbohydrates very low.

Some Notes...

This keto friendly pizza sauce freezes up nicely. You may want to double the batch, and then freeze in small containers for use later on!

When you choose your tomatoes, check the ingredients list to make sure that sugar isn't there. Tomatoes are high in sugar naturally so we certainly don't want any additional carbs sneaking in.

Fresh Herbs At Home

Something new we are doing this year at home is growing fresh herbs in our AeroGarden. As I type this we are just getting ready to plant a second one and expand beyond growing basil, oregano, parsley, dill and thyme. We are going to try some peppers and lettuce and see how that goes as we head into the colder months of the year.

We can't wait to move out of the city and back into rural Iowa where we can have a huge garden full of fresh produce just like my great-grandma used to have.

Do you have a garden outdoors? What are your favorite things to grow? Comment and let us know...

Keto Portabello Pizzas
These keto pizzas are rich and satisfying. Each pizza is approximately 5 total carbs or 4 net carbs excluding the pizza sauce. There are so many keto options for pizza sauce, I opted not to include it in the final count. You can use very low carb options such as alfredo sauce, olive oil & herbs, ranch dressing or even spinach artichoke dip. Enjoy!

Keto Coconut Flour Pizza Crust Recipe
This easy coconut flour pizza crust can be made in a food processor or with a blender. You could even mix it by hand, although that makes it a little harder. When baking with coconut flour, you need to mix your ingredients very well for a few reasons. 1--coconut flour likes to clump and who wants clumps in the finished keto pizza crust? 2--coconut flour is like a sponge and soaks up liquids --but it needs time to do this. Mixing speeds up the process. Check out the full blog post for tips, tricks & substitutions you can use in this keto coconut flour pizza crust recipe.
