Most of the honey sold today—the stuff you grab off the shelf at Walmart—is highly processed and is nothing more than another form of sugar. It has been processed and refined and tastes marginally like real honey.
Try a side by side comparison if you don’t believe me. Grab a generic brand of honey and taste it side by side with a Raw Honey. You’ll pay much more for the raw honey but you’ll quickly taste the difference.
First take a look at the texture and the color. Then try drizzling some of each. Note the differences that you notice. Then, taste the generic honey. Finally, taste the raw honey.
Wow.
(We would love to hear your experiences with your taste test. Tell us about it in the comments!)
Our favorite place to purchase raw honey is at the farmers market directly from a bee farmer. It is fun to have a conversation with them about honey and hear all the amazing stories they have to share about bees and the delicious nectar that they produce.
If you purchase your Honey in a store look for a label that says “100% Pure”. Preferably, find honey that is produced locally in your region. The honey should not be pasteurized, clarified or filtered.
