Keto Walking Tacos

keto walking taco filled and ready to eat

Keto Walking Tacos have been on our wish list...well...since we started keto.

When we began planning our oldest daughters high school graduation party and decided on walking tacos as the “main course”, I knew I needed a creative solution for my clients, friends and family who eat keto and would be attending! Not all of them would be satisfied by a taco salad (the obvious option).

A quick trip to the grocery store and a perusal of the ‘grain-free’ section left me empty handed. However, the pork rinds peaked my interest. If I could find individual bags of pork rinds, I thought a pork rind keto walking taco would work really well.

Finally, I stumbled upon Bacon’s Heir Pork Clouds which you can order from their website in individual bags. The bags are 100 calories each and the absolute perfect size for a walking taco. I emailed the company and asked if they’d be willing to send me some to test with for free...because experimenting out-of-pocket was really starting to add up.

Head on over to Bacon’s Heir website to order the individual bags of pork clouds. You can also find where they might be carried locally on their website.

I also had the idea of doing a bbq holiday spread with all keto foods. I’m still working on this, so stay tuned. Subscribe to my email list and my YouTube channel to make sure you’re notified of the new post each week.

In the end, Keto Walking Tacos were a big hit. In fact, quite a few non-keto people tried them and liked the twist on the traditional walking taco.

My favorite thing about keto walking tacos is that they are customizable to each unique individual. Some piled their pork clouds high with all the toppings… crunchy lettuce, smooth shredded cheese, juicy tomatoes, creamy cold sour cream, full-flavored guacamole… Others, choose just a few toppings...piling their keto walking taco high with cheese and sour cream.

I mean, just look at this beauty… Who said eating keto had to be boring?

A Variety Of Flavors…

At the time this post was published, Bacon’s Heir has the following flavors of pork clouds in individual 0.7 oz bags:

  • Rosemary & Sea Salt
  • Habanero
  • Garlic Thyme
  • Malabar Black Pepper

So, which flavors work best with keto walking tacos? In our opinion we loved the habanero pork clouds and the malabar black pepper pork clouds. I felt the garlic thyme gave the flavor of the keto walking taco an interesting twist; but, it’s a less traditional flavor.

Bacon’s Heir does have a variety pack available. However, it comes with their cinnamon flavor which contains sugar. I will suggest that they do a Keto Variety pack so check their website for your ordering options.

Note: Bacon’s Heir provided these individual bags of pork clouds to us for no cost at my request. I was not paid to promote their product beyond receiving free pork clouds. They also sent some of their Pork Panko to try out! We’re excited to give the panko a try.

The Perfect Keto Taco Meat

Most of us will fill our keto walking taco with taco meat. So, what should you use to season the meat?

Track Your Nutrition & Health Data with cronometer.com

In one pound of ground beef, I like using 1 tsp of Redmond’s Natural season salt plus a ¼ tsp cumin and a few shakes (¼ tsp) of my favorite chili powder.

Warning: Many seasoning blends contain hidden msg, maltodextrin (often made from corn), cornstarch… or other grain based preservatives. Make sure you read the ingredients list when you purchase new seasonings.

Using different chili powders allows me to easily change up the flavor profile by using different chili powders. Our favorites? I’m glad you asked….

  • Ancho Chili Powder
  • Chipotle Chili Powder
  • Chili Powder Blend

There are so many flavor combinations you can use in the meat to satisfy your unique tastebuds. I encourage you to experiment and find the perfect flavor for you.
