Coconut Flour Nutrition: What Are The Health Benefits of Coconut Flour

Mar 24, 2018 · 4 Comments

Learn the health benefits of coconut flour with Health Coach Tara in the video below. You'll find episode notes and links to Tara's favorite brands of coconut flour in this blog post as well.

When you're done, be sure and snag the Coconut Flour Guide for yourself and check out the coconut flour recipes Tara has created below.

What Are The Health Benefits Of Coconut Flour?

Coconut Flour Is A Functional Food

According to the Innovative Food Science & Emerging Technologies Journal, coconut flour is a functional food. This means it's highly nutritious and a great addition to your every day diet.

Coconut Flour Is Low in Carbohydrates & High in Fiber

Another health benefit of coconut flour is that it's high in good-for-your belly fiber while still being low in carbohydrates.

¼ cup (1 ounce) of coconut flour contains only 6 grams net carbs with a whopping 11 grams of fiber!

So, when you consider that ¼c of coconut flour is equivalent to a full cup of traditional flour... that's amazing!

Coconut Flour Is A Powerhouse of Healthy Fats

The MCFA Medium Chain Fatty Acids found in Coconut Flour are healthy saturated fats consisting of Lauric and Capric Acid.

Capric Acid is converted into monocaprin in the body which may help the body combat viruses, bacteria and yeast.

Capric Acid is broken down by your body quickly and is a great source of energy to power workouts and athletic performance.

So, the health benefits of coconut flour extend beyond it being a high fiber food!

Coconut Flour May Be A Fat Loss "Assistant"

According to a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (2008), MCFA's may lead to greater energy expenditure and assist with fat loss! This makes coconut flour a valuable addition to your ketogenic diet.

Coconut Flour Supports a Healthy Heart

Eating Coconut Flour regularly may help lower blood cholesterol levels and reduce your chances of plaque build up in your arterial walls.
