Converting to a toxin free home takes some time and patience. Once you throw out all the chemical-laden cleaners--it takes some trial and error to find what really works best for you. Here you will find a guide to the natural ingredient "castile soap". You'll also find a few recipes that we've used in the past with success.
What is Castile Soap?
Castile soap originated in Castile, Spain. It was traditionally was made with olive oil and animal fat. Today there are many variations. You can find it as a solid or a liquid and made from vegetable oils like palm, coconut, hemp, jojoba and olive.
Castile soap is a great cleaning product to use as it usually contains only vegetable based ingredients. It gives you a great, clean-feeling lather and is a great multipurpose formula. It acts as a surfactant and helps lift away dirt and cut through grease.
You can use it for anything from an ingredient in homemade laundry detergent to a simple, pure hand soap. We like to add our favorite Young Living Essential oils when we make recipes.
Our favorite brand of castile soap is Dr. Bronners which you can find via the links to Amazon in this article or at your local supermarket. We prefer to purchase the Unscented Baby Mild version.
